Buttercream Storks

Obviously, the size tip you use depends on the size stork you want. I'm going to give you instructions for the size I made, about 3 inches tall.

Step 1:

Using the #5 tip (all you'll need for the white icing), make a ball and pull it's neck down into a soft backward "S" shape.

Step 2:

Now you will create its body and base for its tail-feathers.

Still using tip #5: Starting at the base of the neck, create a teardrop shape ball and pull it out (honestly, this looks like a sperm to me- if that helps you visualize it).

Step 3:

Still using tip #5: Create three more wing feathers starting from the upper portion of the body and pulling down toward the tail- but not quite as far.

Step 4:

The beak:

I used red for this tutorial for the beak and legs (to show up better). However, I used pale orange on the cake version.

Using a tip #3: starting at the head, make the slightest little ball and pull it out for the length of the beak.

Step 5:

Legs:

Going back to tip #5 and your white icing: Under the body, make a small ball for the top of the leg. I actually did this part earlier right after doing the wings. But for ease of not so many pictures, I included it here.

Using a tip #3: Starting under the ball you just created (you will very slightly insert the tip of your red/orange icing into this ball) pull out its leg straight down. Don't forget his feet.

Step 6:

Create the other leg:

Using tip 3 and your colored icing start at the top again. Follow the picture for the position of the leg. After completing this leg, go back and place a "knot" where his knee would be.

Step 7:

The bundle comes next:

Go back to your white and tip #5. Make a ball and pull up, creating the bundle. You can also create little feet and a head in a larger version of this stork. However when I tried it on this size, it just made it look sloppy.

Last step!!!

Don't forget a dot for his eye and you're all done!!
